Ellyl Faith Llavore is the newest addition to the growing team at Longevity Graphics as a Graphic Design and Marketing Intern. Currently, she is a second year student of the Digital Design and Development diploma program at BCIT. She has a passion for design and has a keen eye for detail. In addition to her skills in design, she is able to develop responsive websites and has interest in social media marketing. Working at Longevity Graphics as a marketing intern is a new experience for Ellyl and she is looking forward to working with industry experts and learning more about the industry she wants to pursue upon graduation.

What is Digital Design and Development?

The program helps students build a stronger understanding of design, development, and creating interactive applications on various platforms. Students learn how to work in teams to design and develop web/mobile apps, produce video and audio assets for interactive media apps, and much more!

The program is split into three parts:

  • Design
  • Web programming
  • Marketing

Design

The program covers the technical skills when using programs from Adobe Creative Suite such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Students learn how to efficiently create logos, brochures, flyers, website mockups, etc. They are also taught how to produce audio and visual assets for projects using Premiere Pro, Audition, and After Effects.

Web programming

Students learn both front and back-end of developing interactive and responsive websites for clients using HTML, CSS, JQuery, JavaScript, MySQL and PHP. The program also goes over the use of CMS such as WordPress.

Marketing

Helps the students learn the essentials of both on and offline marketing and how the concept can be applied in any type of business. Other courses under this category include relationship selling and entrepreneurship, which help students learn how to develop a successful business plan or sales pitch.

As part of the program, students must participate in an internship. This is a great opportunity for students to work in the field that they wish to pursue in the future and build their portfolio along the way. The program is designed overall to broaden the student’s knowledge and prepare them for future employment in the digital arts industry.

We are excited to announce that we have a new team member. Ryan Jaeger, a third year student at Simon Fraser University, is Longevity’s first data analyst. Ryan specializes in working with information and creating quality back links for clients. We sat down with Ryan and asked him a few questions about himself. Here is the interview:

B: Hi Ryan, how are you doing today?

R: Hi Ben, I’m doing great. I am having a lot of fun during my first day at work.

Fantastic! The first question I have on my sheet is: what degree are you currently working towards?

R: Right now I am studying environmental sciences at Simon Fraser University. I am pretty passionate about the environment, and I am planning on helping restore ecosystems as a career.

B: What draws you to working in marketing and with data?

R: I have always been a very organized and focused person. Something that I have found I can do better than most people is just put my head down and work on a task, sometimes for twelve hours at a time. It’s kind of strange but I like getting immersed in a task, even if it is something monotonous like entering data.

B: What is your favorite part of marketing?

R: I find back linking relaxing, and I do a lot of it. Having quality back links for a site is paramount for any page that hopes to rank in Google search results.

B: Describe your personality

R: I’m not really sure what to say *laughs – I guess you could consider me fairly outgoing. I’m pretty playful and am usually having fun with whatever I do.

B: What are your hobbies

R: I like to be outside; hiking in North Vancouver is something I really enjoy. I also love skiing and will go whenever I get the chance.

B: Thanks a lot Ryan, I’ll let you get back to your work- Welcome to the team!

Zoe, internet marketing and graphic design intern

As a student, I was extremely grateful to receive an internship at Longevity Graphics. Knowing that marketing and design are the fields I wish to work in, they gladly welcomed me. My first internship took place last summer, and I am happy to say that I have come back for the second year!

When I first came to Longevity Graphics, right away, I was accepted into their team. The atmosphere and the knowledge of the office made it easier to learn new things. Coming into the office, I was surely not as experienced as others. But soon enough, thanks to their help, I feel I have become much more knowledgeable about marketing and design.

Here are some of the things I have learned:

  1. While designing projects for customers, keep key ideas of what they suggested in mind. Your job is to create their visualization, not your own.
  2. Make tons of different drafts for the customer to choose from.
  3. While on the phone, don’t be afraid to ask for what you want.
  4. While making your first campaign on Google Ad words, make sure it is perfect. If it’s not perfect, you might mess up future campaigns.
  5. Save everything. Twice even.
  6. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Working at Longevity Graphics has been a great opportunity and I am very grateful for the experience.

Thank you Longevity, you guys are the best!

Longevity graphics would like to introduce Carolyn Dones. She started on September 20th 2011 as the new Marketing Assistant. She goes to school at Simon Fraser University, and studies Communications with a minor in Publishing. She is currently in her last two semesters of Simon Fraser University before she sets off into a new journey to find her dream career.

Why did you choose Communications as your degree?

I was originally studying Kinesiology, hoping to become a Physiotherapist/Kinesiologist for children. However, my life turned a toll when I took my first Communications class. The professor was so intriguing and insightful. I didn’t think I would enjoy learning about how media and culture worked in our society. It definitely opened my eyes to what is going on in our society, and brought me to another level of thinking about our society, intellectually.

What do you hope to achieve with your degree?

With a communication degree it really allows you to do anything. I don’t have a concrete idea, but I would want to get into branding and advertising. Along the same lines, I would love to do marketing. Also, anything that relates to the art industry/scene would be ideal.

What is your favorite commercial?

My favorite commercial would have to be the Knorr’s Sidekicks commercial and their creation of Salty the salt shaker. I felt that the usage of a cute character to show the reduction of sodium within their products. It really appeals to a lot of older and younger viewers.

How do you feel about internet marketing?

Internet Marketing is very convenient in present time.  The web has vast amount information, therefore, vast amount of users. I think it’s a really smart idea to use internet marketing, because you have a whole bunch of different platforms from Facebook to Tumblr. People are really connected through the internet. It’s quite fascinating.

Describe your Personality.

Hard worker, dedicated, and easy going

Hobby or Hobbies

I am very interested in design, especially designing logos. I am also a hip hop dancer.
